Six new adds to the Cali-Folks Playlist this week…four from bands that call LA home and two from Bay Area artists. Released in June of last year but just now crossing our path is Drown in You from the LA-based band Western Medicine. These Colorado expats have a great sound. LA’s Dustbowl Revival has just released a brand new track called Tall Tales. Special guest playing banjo is actor Ed Helms, a longtime friend of the band. Pickleback Shine, also from LA, adds the patriotic Old Glory Sings to the list…perfect for the 250th summer of America. Our final add from LA this week is Dipsea Flower with a song we first fell in love with in 2024, Burnouts. DF was touring back east with Texas band West 22nd recently and on this new acoustic version they were joined by tour buddies’ lead vocalist Logan Madsen. It’s a great take. Bay area entries are San Franciscan Veronica Margaret with Little Love from her new album release The Ghost of Veronica Margaret and Honest John + Cowboy Guitare from Hayward, who just blew my mind with Headin’ Out to Glory Train. I don’t know much about Honest John but his new album All’s Well is very very good. We’ll be digging deeper into that.
There is fantastic independant music being made in California that you never hear because it doesn’t break through the algorhythm. So we actively search for the gems you otherwise won’t find. Follow the Cali-Folks Playlist on Spotify, or on YouTube, and hear what you’ve been missing.
